Legs XI travelled the short distance to Aston Ingham for a friendly 8 a side pairs softball fixture. They are a fairly new side and have a mixture of experienced and new players so this was a chance for some of their players to gain some match experience. Aston Ingham won the toss and put us into bat. After heavy rain during the day the ground was wet and the ball moved very slowly along the ground! The score was creeping up slowly but then Libbi (7) and Wendy (13) found the boundary and pushed the score on nicely before....... Di Hall entered the arena, ably supported by Eggs (12). Di was on fire and hit an amazing 23 runs in 4 overs. Di'son Campbell, who was scoring was delighted and they could hear the cries of 'great shot mum!' in Newent! Legs XI's final score in this format was a brilliant 325.
Our bowling was much improved and we kept our wide balls right down to 10 in total. With 2 wickets taken by Foshy and Libbi, Aston never really challenged the total and finished on 256. It was a great all round fielding performance by Legs XI as Aston were only able to find the boundary once in 16 overs. Aston gained lots of match experience and were lovely hosts. We look forward to the rematch at Colwall on Thursday 3rd July.
