A tough weekend with all 3 teams defeated. With availability not at it best it was great to see 3 full teams take to the field. The third team had the long journey to Presteigne, the 2nds visiting a strong Woolhope 1st Eleven & the firsts taking on fellow strugglers Himley.
Much credit must given to the players who stepped up which included Harry Evens who demonstrated that if you bowl at the wickets you don’t get hit. His spell of 10 overs 1 for 20 was a superb demonstration of that art. Also on the field of play at Colwall was 12 year old Campbell Hall who preformed admirably with the bat and ball. Jai 67 played very well & had to work hard with wickets falling on a regular basis through mainly some poor shot selection. Callum Butler was the other pick of the CCC batting line up with 37 at the top of the innings. A total of 156 was probably 40 runs short but the home side certainly made them fight with a slight bit of controversy over a clear snick to the keeper, that player went on to make an important 58. It took Himley 46.4 overs to get the runs but that little bit of luck just avoided us again.Rahul 7.4 overs 2 for 22 was the pick of the other bowlers.
The 2nd team welcomed debutant Matt Lock to the club unfortunately for him it wasn’t the best of days however great see another player join the club. James Berwick & once again Ben Recordon took CCC to a respectable 216 for 7. The home side got off to a flyer putting 69 on for the first wicket and never looked back with Will Tanner 100 taking to a victory in just 30 overs. Great to see Kit back on the pitch alongside Freddie Fox Mills & Will Orton the future of CCC. .
The third team made one of the long Journeys to a inform & strong Presteigne side with again 3 young players Ralph Elliot , Harrison Goucher, & Alexander Bolderson 21 (top score) who all played a part. A score of 124 was never going to be enough and the home side knocked them of in just 14.3 overs
Great credit must be given to skipper Tom Palmer who just gets on with it despite the poor availability. As they say things can only get better, let’s hope so!!!
