Welcome to Colwall Cricket Club

Richard Burgess26 Jan - 11:40

One of the finest village cricket facilities in the UK

Step into Colwall Cricket Club and you are immediately drawn to a magnificent cedar tree alongside an old coaching inn. Behind them, is the spectacular back drop of the Malvern Hills, with the Iron Age British Camp, once a fortress, prominent.

You are also at one of the finest village cricket facilities in the UK. There are two adjacent grounds, both of a size and maintained to a standard to host NCCA matches. Each ground has a pavilion providing comfortable changing and catering facilities. A three lane, modern, well maintained net facility, sightscreens, electronic scoreboards, and covers, on both grounds complete the picture.

Steeped in history, the club was founded in 1872 and a plaque on the pavilion acknowledges it as being the “cradle of Women’s Cricket”. The Women’s Cricket Association was formed in 1926 following a series of women’s games at the club that summer. Continuing that tradition, the club still hosts a festival of women’s cricket in August each year.

More recently the club celebrated victory at Lord’s, winning the 2020 National Village Cup at Lord’s and in 2022 the extensive 150th birthday celebrations featured a game against the MCC.

In 2024 the club will be fielding:

3 Worcestershire County League XIs
National Village Cup XI on the road to Lord’s
Worcester Evening League XI
Sunday Development XI
“CLOGS” XI (midweek social cricket)
Legs XI (women’s softball team)
