Cresswell spins 2nds to victory

Another strong weekend of results for the club with decisive victories for the first and second teams , unfortunately for the 3rd eleven Alex Tyre played for the opposition Bosbury. I believe it’s his 3rd consecutive 100 v CCC and one that took them to a clear victory

Netherton who ran away with the with the 2nd Division title last year looked a tough game on paper but how wrong can we be albeit at the start of our innings when we fell to 1 for 2 with Sam Williams and Rob Cook back in the tent and things got worse when Jack Collins fell so at 23/3 prospects of a good score did not look promising. An excellent stand however of 125 between Henry Hardinges 91 & Alex Bashford 53 took the team to 148 where a total of over 200 looked possible but as in previous weeks we did not build on the recovery and finished at a disappointing 190 all out. 23.3 overs into the Netherton innings that score looked impressive when Amaan took his 3rd wicket for just 20 runs in a devastating spell of 5.3 overs to take Colwall to a magnificent victory. Amaan was well supported by the impressive Rahul and Jack Collins who took two a piece. The dangerous Ashish Ashish fell to a superb catch by captain Cook who told me that the seam mark was still on his hands later that evening, a blinder I belive. The 20 points takes the first team into 2nd place

The 2nd team can go one better and head the table after another fine victory again it’s Bromsgrove, lead by Sam Bradley Colwall took wickets on a regualr basis and only on Bromsgrove player looked likely to change the outcome of the game. Bromsgrove finished mainly to Simon Evan’s 70 on 137. A total with s strong home batting line up seem well short and indeed it was with contributions from Beswick 34, Bruno Recordon 29, and a classy knock from the returning Callum Butler 26no. The Colwall wickets were shared the wickets around with Lucas Recordon 3 for 20 and the impressive Charlie Cresswell who weighed in with 3 for 11 off just 7 overs. It was a real team performance which will again be required when they face a strong Old E’s side again at home next week

The difference between 174 and 106 = Alex Tyer who not only made a 102 but took 3 wickets, he seems to be the nemesis for Colwall over a number of years now. Only Euan Buttle 42 really got going and the total of 174 always looked too many.Jonathan Henry and Will Brandeth both claimed 3 wickets in the 3rd team first game of the season. Onwards and upwards for them but one man made the difference.
