A magnificent innings of 139 off 129 balls clinched a welcomed victory against a strong Droitwich team. Captain Cook won the toss & elected to bat on an extremely hot day. The opening partnership of 134 gave CCC a wonderful platform with Henry has Hardinges the dominant factor contributing 88 & Cook working his way into form with a controlled 23. Kurt, Heath & Moor all constructed a start but no batsman contributed more that 26 runs to the total. It was Hardinges inning that allowed the visitors to reach a total of 303. Well supported at the end by some sensible batting by Sam Bradley 19 no who with Pete Palmer 5, put on an invaluable 26 runs. At 16 for 2 the home side looked in trouble however a partnership of 128 between Miles 61, and Taylor who went on to eventually reach an excellent 149 brought the home side very much back in to the game. It was Will Rowey however that changed things with a magnificent bit of fielding to run out Taylor & seal a well earned and much needed victory. Pick of the bowling attack for Colwall , Rahul 2 for 48 off his 10, and Savy 1 for 45 off 8.5 bowled with control. With no play cricket in operation at Droitwich the news of victory was greeted by huge cheers at Stowe lane.
It was matter of what could have been at home for our 2nd team at home to Rushwick, after losing two early wickets Buttle & Beswick took the home side to 82 before losing Buttle for 33 and then shortly after Beswick for 57, wickets then fell on a regular basis to what was fairly ordinary bowling attack. A total of 167 never really looked enough and the visitors strolled to a nine wicket victory. A few missed opportunities in the field may well have changed the game but not enough runs on the board was ultimately the reason why.
The mood was further lifted when the 3rd team brought home a well deserved victory under the inspirational captaincy of Tom Palmer against Moccas CC . After electing to bat the visitors reached 159 for 7 with Sam Charles top scoring on 64, pick of the bowlers was young Xander Brown whose 9 overs brought him the return of 3 wickets for just 33 runs. Great to see Will Orton open the bowling taking 1 for 28 off his 8 overs. A team of youth and experience certainly paid dividends with Andrew Waters looking majestic with his 71 including 9 4’s , he was ably supported by Matt Watts 36 and it was this partnership of 68 that made the difference.Xander Brown hit 13 but it was the old hand experience of Jonathan Henry that claimed victory.
All in all not a bad day for the club, onwards and upwards now with the availability being a key factor to ensure further successful weekends. Enjoy the bank holiday everyone.
