After further heavy rain all Saturday all the planned games have some doubt about the taking place. Fortunately in the end we got two games on however the Stowe Lane ground was deemed unfit to play due to some very damp areas around the square. With the rain still coming down the 1st team headed to Astwood Bank looking to complete a double for the first time for many years. Conditions finally relented for play to start at 2.30 for a 25 over game with the home side winning the toss and getting off to a solid start putting 36 on for the first wicket then reaching 75 for 3 but then some great bowling by Damien Berry took 3 for 15 off 7 to destroy the middle order, Jack Collins supported with another 3 wickets meaning the home side only reached 96. Colwall reply started positively with Cook and Harding’s putting on 34 when captain Cook was out for a 29 off just 29 balls. Henry Hardinges who had struggled for some form recently then took up the challenge and hit a match winning 33 taking CCC to within grasp of victory and it took Collins 25 no and in form Bruno 10 no to see us home and for a fantastic 24 points
After several pitch inspections it was deemed that the Ghost Meadow was fit to play and indeed 45 over game began on time. Fownhope Strollers the visitors had given CCC a good thumping only a few weeks ago however a strong looking third team had different ideas this time and claimed a magnificent victory by 41 runs. The victory was built upon some solid batting by Euan Buttle 25 and a solid looking 50 by Adam McLachlan all ably supported by Walters 21, Palmer 21, and Sparrey whose 34 including 6 4’s enabled CCC to reach a respectable total of 189. Strollers reply did not go to plan with Charlie Clements bowling with pace and accuracy taking out the early order and finished with a fantastic 4 for 14 off 7. Charlie was supported by Harry Evan’s who despite pulling up lame bowled well and economically for his 1 wicket. A partnership off over 70 runs took the visitors to 142 for 4 and they sensed victory until the introduction of Finlay Greaves who bowled with great control and accuracy for his match winning 4 for 25. It was undoubtedly Finlay and Charlie who drove CCC to a great victory. Two young men who have a bright future. Despite the football being on a good crowd of people saw this wonderful victory under the inspired leadership of Tom Barter
A good set of results with some frustrations over the 2nd team game falling to the weather but even later in the day the ground remained unfit to play despite the bright sunshine. We are aware of some remedial work which needs completing to improve our grounds through the autumn period . This work will hopefully improve overall drainage.
Look out for the Half term report later this week
