On what can only be described as a bleak Saturday from a weather perspective the outcome was probably not as bad as it could have been! The wet conditions stopped any play before 3.45 but once underway the newly crowned Champions Netherton took Colwall bowlers to the sword with the leagues star batsman Ashish hitting a magnificent 111 taking his total league runs to 1075 at an average of 89.5 for the season. Some player indeed. The home team stuck to the task with some fine catches in the outfield with Jackson Heath claiming bragging rights on the best one. A total of 238 in 25 overs looked a tight ask in poor light and so it proved to be with no one being able to get on top of some accurate bowling, eventually the Umpires called the game off in the 14 over with CCC being 86/5. With some complex calculations still underway we are awaiting final confirmation if we achieved 11 or indeed 12 points. A tough day but Netherton are clearly a top side who will probably take the next step forward very easily. Next week’s game at Enville looks now like a must win game.
With inquiries and last minute drop outs the 2nd team made a brave effort to chase down Halesowen’s 298 but only the in form Tom Hall 57, Yuvraj 46 & Sam Bradley made any dent in that total and the visitors finished on 184. It’s been a long season but improvements are very visible and a probable top 6 finish demonstrates the progress being made. Next season could even be better with so many young players now stepping forward in the club.
The 3rd team and CLOGS entertained a touring side from Bridgend and just fell short of victory in a game which was played in fine spirits despite the poor weather encountered.
What ever the outcome in the final league games the club has performed at higher level this season with some really positive signs to look forward in 2025 . Thanks to everyone who have contributed to making it a very happy place to watch and play cricket
Finally Congratulations to the under 13 team who secured the Herefordshire Cup against Ludlow , another demonstration of Colwall being “on the up”. Not such good news for the u11’s but they came up against a very strong Ombersley team in the u11Worcestershire cup however all a great experience which I am sure will benefit them in the future. Thanks to all the Junior team managers for all your hard work and dedication this season, it is greatly appreciated & without question these young people will benefit from your time given & importanly secure a bright future for our great club.
