LWC was started over 40 years ago by Robin Gray and Ebrahim Mukadam, who to this day are still at the helm. The company was born from their experience in the industry, having previously run successful pubs themselves.
Since our beginning, we have grown to have close to 1000 members of staff, and service over 13,500 on-trade customers across the UK.
Originally, LWC was based in an old mill in Greater Manchester; we now work from a support centre in Manchester with 17 depots across the country.
We have always continued to grow, even throughout the recent economic downturn: in 2013 the Sunday Times named LWC the “fastest growing privately owned drinks company in the UK.”

We made our first batch of cider as most do - from the apple tree in our garden. Turns out we were born to be cider makers! We started Napton Cidery the very next year, with the sole mission to collect unwanted apples from our village and surrounding orchards to make something wonderful. From pressing a simple 2000 litres in 2015, we now press over 160,000 litres per year, all sourced from traditional orchards in Herefordshire to support sustainable British farming. Find out more about our commitment to sustainability here. You can now enjoy a pint of Napton Cider in over 50 establishments and the list is always growing! Get in touch to find out where your closest pint is.
We’ve now expanded our cidery at Holroyd House Farm to include a shop and taproom. Here you can buy or sit and enjoy all of our products, including our limited edition ciders, our apple juice and our apple cider vinegar. We also have a hand-picked selection of craft beer, wine and spirits from local producers.

Bennett’s story begins with our great, great grandfather – Robert Osborne Bennett. As the eldest of eight siblings, Robert left the family smallholding in Cornwall at an early age and ventured to London where he took up employment on a dairy farm. By the turn of the century, Robert had started his own dairy business in White Hart Lane, Tottenham. He purchased milk transported by train from Derbyshire, whilst also milking his own cows in West Ham. When war broke out, Robert’s eldest son Norman took the King’s shilling in Trafalgar Square which took him to the Tank Corps in Flanders, while his youngest son Stanley joined the Royal Naval Air Service. In 1918, Robert moved back to the countryside and purchased Manor Farm in Worcestershire - a hop and beef farm situated in the river meadows of the Severn Valley.
Dairy Farming at Manor Farm
In 1925 his son Stanley arranged for dairy cows to be brought down by train from Ayr-shire. Within the year he opened the dairy and began delivering milk to the surrounding villages and towns. In the later years of his life, Stanley Bennett became involved in local politics. During his tenure as Mayor of Worcester, he had the honour of granting Winston Churchill the Freedom of the City. Stanley extended an invitation for Churchill to visit his farm, an invitation that Churchill graciously accepted as he took the time to visit and inspect our herd.
Time of Diversification
In 1965 Stanley’s son John took over the family-business. Always keen to innovate and embrace the latest technology, John undertook many new business ventures, including the opening of Worcester’s first frozen food centre. He even produced his own fresh orange juice!
The First Scoop
The ice cream journey began in 1982 when John started manufacturing ice cream using fresh whole milk and double cream from our dairy. John’s son Duncan returned home in 1987 to continue the story. Alongside his cousin Keith, they channelled their enthusiasm and passion for ice cream over more than three decades to grow the ice cream brand we know and love today. Driven by their deep love for ice cream and unwavering dedication, they worked tirelessly to earn a reputation for exceptional quality and outstanding service.
In 2019 and 2020, as part of our green initiative and focus on sustainability, we installed solar panels on the roofs of our factory and cold store. We now produce over 30% of our electricity and save more than 30,000kg of CO2 emissions per year.
The Fifth Generation
Today, two of Robert Bennett’s great-great-grandsons, Robert and Oliver, run the ice cream business, while their cousin Tristan operates the farm and tends to the family herd of over 240 cows. We proudly continue and uphold the legacy of the Bennett brand, while innovating and growing our offering. In 2024, we were recognised as an award-winning ice cream producer by Great Taste winning a Gold Award. Further awards were secured in 2025 for the quality and taste innovation of our ice cream by Farm Shop & Deli winning Gold Award.
Five generations on, the Bennett family’s dedication to farming and the crafting of a luxurious dairy ice cream remains as strong as ever.
