Thank you to everyone who took part/donated to the Country Walk around Colwall yesterday in memory of my daughter Hollie. The total raised for Bowell Cancer UK is currently £2203.75 in online donations and cash collected yesterday. Special thanks to our friends Ollie and Babs Oliver who planned, signposted, printed directions and led two groups. Everyone had a great time and the weather was kind to us above, if not under foot! Hollie's family are committed to raising awareness to improve early diagnosis as 9 in 10 people will survive if diagnosed at the earliest stage. We encourage as many as possible to take part in this sponsored walk in the beautiful Herefordshire countryside. Bowel Cancer UK encourage you to walk to promote early diagnosis, walk to support everyone affected and walk in memory of your loved ones.

This is a sponsored walk perfect for all ages (but unsuitable for buggies or wheelchairs).

The walk will start from Colwall Cricket Club, Stowe Lane Ground, returning to Colwall Cricket Club. There will be a minimum of two routes to choose from.
Please:-
* Arrive between 10:30am and 11:30am and register your presence at the desk in front of the Stowe Lane pavilion.
* Deposit any cash donations received and your sponsorship forms.
* There will be water to refill your water bottles, toilets, drinks and food available to purchase.
* Bring a water bottle and walking footwear + water proofs dependant on the weather forecast
* Your dog is welcome to join you, but we ask that they are well-behaved and kept on a lead at all times. One adult per dog please and clean up any fouling. The cricket club grounds are private property with a footpath on our Ghost Meadow ground subject to Hereford Council Public Space Protection Order (Dog Control). We ask you, whilst on the cricket grounds to follow the clubs dog policy of - keeping your dog on a short lead, out of buildings, avoid crowded areas such as those outside the pavilions and clear up any fouling and dispose of this off site (there is a bin outside Stowe Lane gate) and make your own arrangements for a drinking bowl (there is an outside tap outside the kitchen door between the garage and pavilion).

I have organised this walk in memory of my daughter Hollie Hill, I am Colwall Cricket Club's secretary. Hollie is also the wife of Tim Hill who has been involved with Colwall Cricket Club since a young boy and step-daughter of the clubs barman, Rob. Hollie, a graphic designer, made a great contribution to the club designing posters for many events, most recently the posters, tickets and 2022 handbook (along with Andrew Waters) for the 150th Anniversary Celebrations.
Hollie became unwell in December 2022 and was finally diagnosed with Bowel Cancer on 24th March 2023. Her first chemotherapy treatment was on 4th May 2023. Hollie was very brave and faced her diagnosis with dignity and bravery, thinking more of others and how her illness was affecting them, not feeling sorry for herself. Hollie continued to work and socialised when she felt able, always looking her beautiful best. Sadly her treatment did not work and Hollie passed away on 24th September 2023 aged 40 at home surrounded by her family. Me, Tim, Rob, her brother Jim Williams and all her family are passionate about promoting early diagnosis, especially in young people as if diagnosed early the disease is treatable and curable.

April is Bowel Cancer UK Awareness Month.
Bowel Cancer UK are campaigning to improve early diagnosis by ensuring people have access to the right test at the right time. Over 16,800 people die from bowel cancer each year, more than 2,600 are young people, many told they are too young to have bowel cancer. However, this shouldn't be the case as the disease is treatable and curable, especially if diagnosed early. More than nine in 10 people will survive bowel cancer if diagnosed at the earliest stage.
