Chairman’s 2020 Welcome message

Welcome to another season, and once again thank you for your continued support of our club it is very much valued.

I am unbelievably entering my 4th year as chairman of this great club where does that time go!
Lots of progress and developments have been achieved however we have so much more to do.
If we are to go to the next level not just in playing standard but all round facilities we do need more people just to come forward.Running any voluntary club or organisation is incredibly difficult and we still have too many people who just stand and watch. I want our club to buck this trend and have people who deliver without the usual requirement of constant pressure.
After making this plea I do fully recognise we have many people who do deliver for the club but new faces bring new fresh ideas and if we are to reach our objectives we need you on board

My challenge to you all is think about what you can do, it’s not about committees it’s about liked minded people taking on specific tasks or challenges and getting them done.

On the playing front we enter a year when the first team will play in the Premier League for the first time after a fantastic 2019 campaign. I know we will face new challenges but with the right team spirit I am sure we can hold our own. I wish James Wagstaff & Andy Robertson all the best  as respective captain and vice captains, it will be a year in which they will both require our full support.

The second team development continues and a strong finish to last season bodes well for this season, good luck to Will Bishop & Kit Lister who I know will lead from the front. We are now only represented in the Marches league by our third team ably lead by Sam Bradley & Steve Wright , the team had a torrid time last year through poor availability and other factors but showed massive resilience. Good luck Sam, I know this will be a strong year for you and the team.

Mark Lessimore a person whose perseverance for getting teams on to the pitch needs applauding will take charge of the 4ths no one does it better!  He will be joined by the  experienced support of Simon Oliver and this year will play in the Worcester League Division 12 for the first time. Development of our youngsters is key and this new opportunity with less travel and a reduced number of games I think will work perfectly for the club.

Our social team the CLOGS will once again occupy many Tuesday nights at the club, it’s always a great relaxed evening at the club with an ever present BBQ which many enjoy. If you interested in joining them come on down you won’t be disappointed.

On the social front I am delighted that Jane & Rob Kendrick & Matt Morgan have joined the committee. A number of meetings have taken place already with a full calendar of events being put together for you to support from including our new 100 club, quiz, food and music nights will once again be prominent. One of the main events this year will be our fun day in August when once again we will be joined by Toft (Cheshire) last year was good let’s make it even better this year.

Our junior season will start with registration night on the 24th April , let’s hope we have some drier Friday nights this year ! As ever the Junior side of the club is run superbly well by a group of volunteers, can I take the opportunity to thank everyone who makes our club the envy of so many others in the area. Many of our youngsters have made county squads and it testament to the quality of our coaches and this can only bode well for the future of club. If your a junior parent can you help either on match days or by sponsoring the junior section get in touch. See you on the 24th

Finally & most importantly I need to say a few words about our groundsman Derek who continues to produce two wonderful playing surfaces, our grounds never looked better last year. He’s a remarkable man who we must look after so if you can help in any way with ground work please shout loudly. Thank you Derek for all of your tremendous work

Tributes
As you know last year brought the death of mum Barbara at 91, mum did the teas for over 50 years, some achievement but not only this was ever present at the club. We gave her a great send off and she will always be remembered.

At the start of last year we also lost John Davies and sadly this year Gerard Flint two great players for the club. Both fine allrounders and good club supporting members who have been taken away from us to early.

Finally our club is great place to be however let’s make it better with your support

Kim
