Formed in 1872 Colwall Cricket Club boasts some of the highest quality and most picturesque facilities for many miles, with a second adjacent ground and pavilion added shortly before the millennium Colwall is among the finest village cricket facilities in the country.
The club currently field four senior teams playing Saturday league cricket with the 1st XI competing in the Worcester County League, shadowed by the 2nd XI. The 3rd & 4th XI’s play in the Herefordshire Marches league division 2 & 4. It was great to see our 3rd eleven winning the 2016 T20 Marches League Trophy by beating Kington in the final at Eastnor.
On a Sunday the club compete in the national village cup which culminates in a final at Lords and a good run in this competition always brings a great many supporters to the ground. Friendlies are also played regularly and recently a new addition for 2015 saw Colwall U19’s compete in T20 competition, which provided some great entertainment as they went on to win the final.
In addition the Colwall League Of Gentlemen (C.L.O.G.S) play on a Tuesday evening and provide a warm welcome to anybody wishing to play purely social cricket (although they do like to win occasionally!).
The club is extremely proud of its junior section and run sides at age groups ranging from under 9’s to under 19’s, with qualified coaches dedicated to providing enjoyable cricket as well as the opportunity to reach full potential for Boys & Girls of all abilities.
On Friday evening’s the club runs a very popular soft ball session for Boys & Girls of primary school age, this fun session is a brilliant introduction to cricket as well as a great social evening with many parents making use of the clubs well stocked bar in the evening sunshine.
The club operates the highest standard of child welfare & safeguarding, all coaches are DBS checked, ECB qualified and insured, a trained welfare officer is always available for contact should the need arise.
Many other events are held at Colwall and the club are proud to host the Herefordshire County XI & 2nd XI numerous times throughout the season as well as many junior representative sides from both Herefordshire and Worcestershire.
For one week in mid August Colwall becomes the hub of English ladies cricket as the National Womens Cricket Week is hosted at the club.
The club relies heavily on its many volunteers, from coaching, providing match teas and helping to organise events to assisting our award winning groundsman Derek Brimmell, there are many opportunities to get involved in the club.
